It was memories of a backyard well that first made 28-year-old Sun Bin
understand the family he was living with was not his own, the missing
well belonging to his birth parents. Now, 24 years later, he has finally
tracked them down.
In 1991, 4-year-old Sun was #kidnapped
from a food market in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, where his father was
selling vegetables. He was eventually taken to Xuzhou, Jiangsu Province, over 1500 kilometers away from his hometown and given to new parents.
Holding on to his one early memory, Sun spent years searching for
answers from the public security bureau. Decades later, they finally
managed to track down his biological father, and helped set up a
reunion, according to newssc.org.
Sun learned that his parents had never stopped looking for him. His
father said that after their son was kidnapped, he and his wife traveled
around China facing countless disappointments as they followed false
lead after false lead.
Sun was able to meet his younger sister
for the first time, as she wasn’t born until 1994. Sadly he was not
given the chance to see his mother again, who died from breast cancer in
2012.
Sun’s story has gone viral in the Chinese online
community. Many net users felt the story was bittersweet. Like one user
“Datoulvdou2013” who said, “What a sad story! For every parent, the
biggest joy is to take care of the baby and to see it grow up. Sun’s
parents were deprived of their rights to do so. But fortunately, Sun
finally managed to go home!”
Sun said that his adopted parents
treated him very well and that he would take care of them as long as he
can. Plenty of posters expressed their best wishes for both of his
families.
Finally many bloggers called for tough punishment for #humantraffickers.
According to current Chinese law, child kidnappers receive punishment
of more than 5 years but less than 10 years in prison, and only in very
severe cases will they be sentenced to death.
